In 2012, South Hill resident Charlie Beach was diagnosed with a form of cancer known as squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsil. He traveled 100 miles round trip for radiation therapy because it wasn’t offered locally at that time. But thanks to a partnership between CMH and VCU Massey Cancer Center, radiation treatment is now available in South Hill, and Charlie was able to complete his cancer treatment with Dr. Fang at CMH-Massey. His goal was simple: to regain his strength and energy in time for an annual golf trip with his buddies to Myrtle Beach. His cancer care team, together with the outpatient rehab program, helped Charlie fully recover and get his life back in full swing.
