CMH Now Offers Digital Mammography

Women who undergo routine mammograms at Community Memorial Healthcenter’s (CMH) Imaging Center now have the latest diagnostic technology available to them, digital mammography. Now, all mammograms at CMH will be performed digitally with the state-of-the-art system, Selenia™ digital mammography from Hologic™.

CMH is very excited to be able to offer the newest technology for breast cancer detection. Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is acquired and, more importantly, viewed. The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and invert the black and white values while reading the images. These features allow the radiologist to evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern.

“Our digital mammography capabilities are on par with other larger metro areas,” says Wendy Burke, CMH Radiology Director. “Our new digital mammography services will provide women in the area high quality, convenient options for their imaging needs.”

By offering women the latest technology in mammography, the center hopes to increase the number of area women who follow recommendations for regular screenings.

CMH is dedicated to providing the highest quality health services and preventative medical care for the south-central region of Virginia and portions of northern North Carolina. Our digital mammography services provide yet another component of CMH’s comprehensive continuum of care for people in our community.
